These days, great Notre Dame college football teams are a lot like Halley's Comet -- you only see them once in a great while. Of course, terrific Notre Dame teams weren't always so few and far between. Young catholics used to grow dreaming of either attending or, if they were lucky, playing for ol' Notre Dame. First, some people of other religious faiths find Notre Dame and their followers a bit too smug and "holier-than-thou". Suffice to say, a strong Notre Dame spices up interest in American college football in many ways.
